Ask Ava: FAQ—At Home Jewelry Care
Hi, it’s Ava! Today’s
frequently asked question is…
“How should I care for my
jewelry at home?”
Excellent question! Caring
for your jewelry at home is easier than you may think. Fine jewelry is an
investment, like my favorite sweater, you have to take care of it to keep it
looking fabulous. We recommend and sell the following cleaning supplies:
Hagerty ® Silver Cleaner is used to clean sterling silver,
silver plated, and gold filled jewelry. Price: $5
Hagerty® Silversmiths’ Wash is used to clean and protect
fine silver. It works best for large solid pieces including tableware,
platters, etc. Price: $12
Rich Glo Silver Jewelry Polishing Cloth is used to clean
precious metals, precious stones, and semi-precious stones. Price: $10
Rich Glo Silver Jewelry Polishing Glove is used to clean
precious metals, precious stones, and semi-precious stones. Price: $12
Rouge Polishing Cloth is used to clean and polish
silverware, gold, and nickel. Price: $12
***Be extra careful with jewelry that has stones. Some
stones cannot be used in silver cleaner. A few stones that CANNOT be used in
silver cleaner are emeralds, tanzanite, turquoise, opal, amber, pearl, paua
shell. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 252-355-6714.
***
Here’s how you use the Hagerty ® Silver Cleaner:
1. Drop in basket and shake for less than 10 seconds. Never
leave jewelry sitting in the cleaner!
2. Using cool water rinse, rinse, and rinse some more! Make
sure all the silver cleaner is removed from your jewelry. We use Dawn® dish
detergent to make sure all the cleaner is washed away.
3. Dry with a soft towel. Make sure all jewelry is
completely dry before you store it. Beads tend to hold excess water. A gentle
shake in the towel should remove excess water.
4. Store in plastic jewelry bags that are air tight. Air is
jewelry’s worst enemy! Plastic jewelry bags can be purchases at most art &
craft stores in the jewelry making section.
Sound too complicated? No problem. You can bring your
jewelry by our store or mail it. We’ll take care of it for you. We offer two
cleaning services: 1) Dip in Silver Cleaner is FREE. 2) Tumble (deep clean) is
$3 for up to 5 pieces and $6 for up to 10 pieces. More than 10 pieces will
require an estimate.

At a young age, Karsin had a talent for designing jewelry just like her mom. Karsin told her mom she should design a heart like the one above so Jenni did just that and the "Karsin" heart was born.

Karsin's Hearts: A Jenni K. Jewelry Tradition
1993: Wrapped Sterling Silver Heart with Ruby in 14k Tube Setting
Every year around Valentine's Day, a Jenni K. Jewelry tradition continues. Since 1993, Jenni has designed a special heart for her daughter Karsin. That's 23 hearts total. Many times the heart designs are incorporated into jewelry to be sold in the showroom like the "Jessica" heart that was revealed last Valentine's Day. We thought it would be interesting to feature all of Karsin's Hearts starting with the first heart she received as a baby in 1993.
Karsin's original hearts will be on display in our store. The originals are Not For Sale, but we can make something similar for your sweetheart. See one of our sales associates for more details or give us a call at 252-355-6714.
Jenni K. had a Dream
Today as we celebrate one man’s dream for equality we also
celebrate one woman’s dream to own her own jewelry business. Jenni began making
jewelry when she was 13 years old. Each handcrafted piece was designed
specifically for the woman would wear it. Jenni’s love for jewelry making grew
as well as her desire to one day own her own jewelry store featuring her unique
designs. After 27 years of business, Jenni K. jewelry still operates under the
same spirit it had in the beginning which is to create handcrafted jewelry to
be unique and distinctive as the person wearing it. Today, we celebrate 27
years together, thank you for your continued support, and encourage you to
never give up on your dreams.

Ask Ava
Ask Ava
Hi! I’m Ava. Miska has mentioned me a time or two in her
Monday posts. Occasionally, I quietly venture into the showroom to show off my
latest sweater but mostly I stay to myself (and away from Miska.) Miska likes
to keep everyone busy but I’m happy to be the official lap warmer especially on
these cold winter days. During my time sitting with the others I have learned
many things about the store, the jewelry, and basically how it all works.
In my posts “Ask Ava” I will be sharing the answers to some
of Jenni K. Jewelry’s most frequently asked questions. Do you have a question?
I can help! Follow my posts and you just might find the answer you have been
looking. Or, email your question(s) to jkjewelrymarketing@gmail.com
with the subject “Ask Ava.” I’ll review your question(s) and post it
here on the blog with everything you need to know.
Oh, I think Miska just stepped out for her afternoon walk. I’m
off to explore and enjoy a few moments alone until she returns.
